Back in 1900, this better quality, full-sized, Elgin 18s watch was a popular, working man's timepiece. This example has a bright white, single-sunk, porcelain dial, black Arabic numerals, pointed to by hardened steel 'Spade' hands, as seen under a clean mineral glass crystal.

It is set in a shiny, Philadelphia Watch Case Co., 'Silverode' (trade name for nickel), screw-back case. Nickel was a relatively new material in the early 1900's. As shiny as silver, but much harder and more resistant to scratching. This particular case has the added feature of a detailed locomotive engraved on the back.

That movement is Elgin's reliable Grade 250, pendant-set, with 17 Ruby jewels, adjusted for position and temperature, and set in a gold-flashed setting. This watch is ready to wear and enjoy! It would make a fine addition to your collection or a wonderful gift.

The face and hands are in excellent condition with no hairlines or blemishes. The case is very nice overall with some gentle patina, appropriate for a 125-year-old timepiece.
